Open Water Diver
An Open Water Diver certification is the entry-level scuba diving certification that allows you to dive independently with a buddy, up to a maximum depth of 60 feet (18 meters). It signifies you've completed the required knowledge, pool, and open water training, and can now explore the underwater world safely under certain conditions.
Key aspects of an Open Water Diver certification:
- Knowledge Development: You learn about the fundamentals of scuba diving, including physics, physiology, and dive planning.
- Confined Water Dives (Pool Sessions): You practice basic scuba skills in a controlled environment like a pool.
- Open Water Dives: You apply your skills in an open water setting, such as an ocean or lake, with an instructor or dive guide.
- Buddy System: You must dive with a certified buddy, who can be another Open Water Diver, and you can't dive without supervision, unless you have a higher level certification.
- Depth Limits: Open Water Divers can dive to a maximum depth of 60 feet (18 meters).
- Certification Requirements: You need to complete all course requirements, including academics, confined water dives, and open water dives.
