General Information

Del Monte, north of Fisherman's Wharf, is generally calm and protected.  This is one of Scuba Steve's favorite sites.  The viz at times can be low 5-10 feet but on great days it is not unheard of to have 20-30 feet.

The dive site is huge with many different sites encompassing the area.  Two hundred yards or so parallel to the shore, you will find a large shale reef (AKA: Tanker Reef or Shale Reef).  This area has large sandy patches. Within these sand patches, you will find kelp and eel grasses.

Marine life in the area includes Nudibranches, Pacific Electric Rays, Crabs, Pipefish and so much more.

Hazards

These sites have long surface swims. When diving close to the wharf, take care as it is a frequent location of local fisherman. Make sure to take along a sharp divers tools as you can become the catch of the day! Please note, diving under the wharf is prohibited unless you have the permission of the Harbor Master.
